Sorghum / Jowar FAQs

Common questions

Is Sorghum the same as Jowar?

Yes. Jowar is the widely used Indian name for Sorghum. The grain may also be called Cholam, Jola or Jonnalu in regional languages.

What is Sorghum called in Malayalam?

Cholam (ചോളം) is commonly used for Sorghum, though the word may be used broadly in some contexts. Confirm the exact grain using the product label.

What is White Sorghum?

White Sorghum refers to Sorghum varieties with pale or white-coloured grain. Product colour and appearance can vary naturally, so refer to the All Days pack for exact identification.

What does Jowar taste like?

Jowar generally has a mild, slightly earthy flavour. Its final taste and texture depend on whether whole grain, flour or a prepared mix is used.

Can Jowar flour replace wheat flour directly?

Not in every recipe. Jowar and wheat behave differently, so use a recipe developed for Jowar or a tested flour blend instead of making an automatic one-to-one substitution.

What is the scientific name of Sorghum?

Cultivated grain Sorghum is generally identified as Sorghum bicolor. Confirm the exact product documentation before publishing species-level information.

How should Sorghum grain and flour be stored?

Keep the product tightly sealed in a clean, dry container away from heat, moisture and sunlight. Follow the storage directions and best-before date printed on the pack.
